Residential Treatment Center

In 1987, Willowglen Academy - New Jersey first opened its doors to youth living with developmental, mental health, and intellectual challenges by providing residential treatment. Today, we continue to support youth in need of residential treatment services referred by Care Management Organizations and DCP&P in our 40-bed residential program supported by three additional group homes. We are here to provide families and their loved ones with the additional support and help they need to work through their child’s mental and emotional needs.

Willowglen ensures that our team of professionals will provide a structured environment that emphasizes consistency with treatment specific to the unique strengths and needs of the youth, and their families. Youth are given all the necessary tools to navigate independently and successfully through all major life areas, including (1) daily living; (2) communication; (3) community integration and re-integration; (4) personal and social awareness; (5) cognitive and behavioral functioning; (6) leisure–time engagement; (7) economic self-sufficiency (self-budgeting); (8) vocational; (9) health and medical awareness; (10) education and (11) socialization.

Each youth is assigned a clinician that will work with them individually on setting and meeting treatment goals. Treatment is tailored to the specific needs of the youth and treated as a partnership between the family, the clinician, the staff, the physicians and always the youth. Our treatment seeks to provide each and every youth with a safe and therapeutic environment to foster growth and independence.

By placing your child in residential treatment, you are taking a step to make a lifelong difference in your child’s life and we are here to work with you to take those steps. If you or your parents/caregiver have any questions about the program please contact us! We would love to share success stories, provide information about our incredible staff, as well as what makes us the premier residential treatment environment.

RESIDENTIAL TREATMENT SERVICES:

Group Counseling:

Evidence based psychoeducational and functional Cognitive Behavioral Therapy approaches are used to address anger management, social skills development, understanding human sexuality, choosing and maintaining healthy friendships, personal, and interpersonal growth and the development of responsible lifestyles.

Individual Counseling:

Individual sessions are conducted at least twice per week by the consumer's primary mental health clinician.

Family Counseling:

Over the phone, online, or face to face, the consumer's family/caregiver(s) are engaged in family empowerment with the clinician. Building upon the strengths and resources of the family culture, all significant others are considered essential to the successful completion of treatment. Whether family reunification is to occur or an alternative living arrangement is to be provided, the family/caregiver(s) are encouraged to develop parenting/support skills that provide the necessary structure, nurture, authority and role models for the consumer in treatment. We believe the family system is vital to the long-term success of treatment which is predicated on the strengthening and empowerment of the primary caregiver system.
